A football watching must-have

If you are anything like us, from September-December every year the TV will be playing football games all weekend long. I love it. We generally hang out at home, play outside, and watch football! I love to make a big pot of something on Saturdays that we can eat all day long. Does that sound weird? Sometime mid-morning, I’ll make a soup or chili, and put it in the crock pot and we will eat it for lunch and dinner, along with some other snacks. The food just gets better the longer it simmers, and it’s just appropriate Fall food. I thought I would share my recipe for the chili I’m planning on making tomorrow morning. It’s great to make in bulk to feed lots of friends, or freeze. Enjoy!

Fall Football Chili

  • 1lb ground turkey (Beef is fine, I just don’t eat beef)
  • 3 cloves of garlic minced (I have a garlic press and use fresh garlic)
  • 1 can petite diced tomatoes (I have a thing against big tomato chunks)
  • 1 can chili hot beans (kroger brand)
  • 1 package chili seasoning (kroger brand)
  • 1/2 tsp (or to taste) of cumin, chili powder, onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp (adjust to how spicy you like it) cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes
  • 2 T ketchup

Brown the meat and garlic, drain. Add everything else and let it simmer for a little bit until you’re ready to eat. The ketchup adds just a little bit of sweetness to cut the spicy/smokiness of the other spices.

You probably have most of the stuff to make this at your house already, so make it for dinner tonight…or an afternoon snack. Have a great weekend!
